Chapter 2: No Longer Lonely
It’s been a weird first few months. My hair is growing back and my wounds have healed to scars. When I first realized they weren’t going to heal I was very upset, but I guess they look kind of cool? They make me look more mature and more capable of actually handling all of this stuff. Let me tell going camping with my girlscouts group does not compare to actually roughing it. I guess I was kind of a pushover before all of this.

I somehow landed a job though. After thinking about the amount of power Glassbolt Inc. holds in these parts I decided to put my pre-college reading to use. I’ve been going around offering people help. Some have issues with their bosses, neighbors or Glassbolt Inc. itself. I’m trying fill the void that was left by law I guess. The community has been paying me for my troubles, and maybe I’ll actually be able to take some power away from Glassbolt Inc.
In other news, one of the people I met actually turned out to be a really friendly guy. His name is Salim, and he’s a journalist. He’s from San Myshuno. He told me there was a massive flood, and that he was stuck on top of his apartment building for over a week! He arrived here a while ago and has been trying to record important recent events and investigate the cause of all these global disasters.
He’s planning to stick around, but he’s been sleeping outside and living off local plantlife. I felt sorry for him, so I offered him a place to stay. It’s been nice, having someone around. I’m not as lonely anymore. So that’s why I’ve been writing less I guess. Having someone around is just so much nicer than sulking around by myself.

Salim laughed. God his laugh is nice. “You’ve really never dated anyone before?”
“No!” I said, laughing. “I guess I never really felt the need to. This backwater never really had good options anyway. I bet San Myshuno was filled with pretty people though.”

He smiled at that. “Honestly that was kind of the problem. I wasn’t very popular in the city of the young and beautiful.” I sat up straighter. “So you have never dated anyone either?” He shook his head. “nope.” we both laughed at that. Salim let out a content sigh and wiped a tear from the corner of his eye.
“Honestly Zoë, I haven’t laughed this much in years.” I gave him a questioning look. “There might be a lot of people in the city, but it’s still lonely.” He elaborated. “I haven’t had a real friend in a long time, and I’m very glad to have met you.”
I smiled at him. “I’m glad we’re friends too. And I’m glad I invited you to move in.” Salim pushed himself up and yawned. “So am I. I do have work to do in the morning though.”

He got up and walked toward the door, but stopped in the door opening and turned around. “For the record though, I do think at least one beautiful person lives here. Good night, Zoë”
